Emilia Martin

Emilia Martin is a visual artist whose work bridges photography, sound, writing, and performance. With a background in photography and society (MA, Royal Academy of Art, The Hague), her practice is research-driven and often explores mythology, female voices, and narrative structures through multi-sensory installations and artist books.

Her work has been widely exhibited across Europe and internationally. In 2025, she was selected for the FOTODOK Embassy Talent Program and was one of four winners of the Fotofestiwal Łódź open call, where she exhibited I saw a tree bearing stones in the place of apples and pears. The same project was shown as a solo exhibition at Pictura Gallery (Bloomington, USA), featured at Art Rotterdam’s Prospects (2025), and shortlisted for the Lucie Photo Book Prize. Earlier, it won the Charta Award in 2023 and was published by Yogurt Editions in 2024, with launches at FOAM Amsterdam and Bildband Berlin.

Emilia’s presence in photography festivals includes the Athens Photo Festival (Benaki Museum), Singapore International Photography Festival, Kranj Photo Festival (Special Mention), Boutographies (Montpellier), Grenze Festival (Verona), and Dior x LUMA at Les Rencontres d'Arles. Her installations and sound-based works have also been exhibited at Museum Beelden aan Zee and Nieuw Charlois in the Hague and Rotterdam respectively.

Her projects have been supported by numerous grants, including the Amarte Fonds Development Grant and Cultuurfonds Research Grant in 2025, as well as the Mondriaan Fonds and previous Amarte Artist Grant in 2023. She has participated in residencies at Landskrona Foto (Sweden), Sasso Residency (Switzerland), LOOS Den Haag, and Tuscan House of Photography (Italy), where she developed her ongoing project Hail Mary, Bobbin Lace, Serpent’s Thread.

Alongside her artistic practice, Emilia is active in education and collective organizing. From 2022–2024 she taught at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, co-developing courses on sonic storytelling and sensory research methods. She is also a co-founder of Radio Echo and curated FEMFEST, a feminist radio festival amplifying underrepresented voices.
